Wendy Lavalle

Tour Artist Wendy Lavalle shares her process painting in wax. Encuastic painting is fascinating and we are fortunate to have two artists on the Tour who use this media, Wendy and Allison.

Wendy shares with us...

...the griddles and irons are fired up....the beeswax is melted....and my studio is a "buzz" with activity as I prepare for the upcoming Stouffville Studio Tour. I've photographed a few steps in the creation of this beautiful flower painting....Enjoy!!!

1st...I fire up the griddle and melt the beeswax and prepare to apply a base of smooth clear wax

2nd....put my drawing skills to the test and sketch my subject

3rd Step...the underpainting....a familar step in for most artists - knocking in the big shapes and main lights and darks - love this step!

Lots of scaping and fusing in between the many many layers of wax and TADAAAAA!!  The final product...with all the texture and luminousity that you would expect of this ancient medium....ENCAUSTIC!

Wendy's Studio is number 2 on the tour.
Make sure to visit her on October 13th and/or 14th

About Margaret Grandison

Introducing Studio Tour artist Margaret Grandison.

Margaret Grandison is a Studio Tour artist with a whimsical approach to all she sees. Her delicate watercolour style has won over almost everyone who has visited her home. These are a few examples of work created en plein air on a recent trip to Newfoundland with her husband Ray and friends Colin and Susan Whitebread. Be sure to see Margaret's, Ray's and Colin's work during the 2012 Stouffville Studio Tour.

Don't miss this show!

Colin Whitebread's work will be at the Kent Farndale Gallery in Port Perry until the end of this month...

Colin has this to say:
Many thanks to Margaret Grandison and Ray McNeice for their expertise and help in hanging the show.

It was wonderful to see Diana and Allison Bullock, Ed Keith and his wife Pam at the opening.

I just began teaching creative drawing, and acrylics at Silver Jubilee and I will teaching the Budding Artists at Latcham Gallery on Saturday mornings.

Well worth the drive to Port Perry!
