Thank you

The 13th Annual Stouffville Studio Tour was a huge success. Thank you for your continued support. We had record crowds again this year.

We would also like to thank all of our sponsors. They make it possible to advertise all over the GTA in print and with our brochure. Here is a link. We encourage you to patronize them year round.

Special thanks to the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville, the Stouffville Free Press, the Shoppes of Stouffville newsletter, the Stouffville Sun Tribune and Stouffville Whistle Radio.

We are already starting to think about next year.
Please keep checking our social media ..... there will be lots of news about our artists.

Thank you again!

Carin Bacher

Take Part....In Art!
 Carin shares with us

An integral part of Canada’s heritage, the magnificence and beauty of the Totem sadly almost became a lost art.

In the 1800’s this majestic art form very nearly met its demise through the implementation of “assimilation” legislation.

In what year was the law prohibiting totem carving repealed? 1892, 1914, 1927, 1936 or 1951?

To learn the answer and more interesting aspects of totem carving we invite you to visit
Studio # 1 during the tour.

Important please note

Due to unforeseen events, the studio of John Roberts (location 16) will not be open for this year's Stouffville Studio Tour.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Lis Simpson

Here’s some of the completed projects of Lis Simpson. Her earlier blog post is here

The first projects were done on chemical powders to provide textures underneath the glass.  This one is called “Autumn Joy”!

Then we did some interesting pieces using molds to create either a plaster model or one of glass frit.

We took a real strawberry and created a mold by forming sculptural plaster around it.  After firing with glass frit in the kiln, we ended up with a real glass strawberry!

Lastly we did the process I really wanted to learn – lost wax casting.  Here are the 3 models we worked from.  The first was the white Sculpey model from which we made a urethane mold.  We poured sculptural wax into the mold to create a wax model.  Then we created a plaster mold, like with the strawberry and steamed out the wax.  Lastly filling the mold with glass frit my green glass frog emerged from the kiln firing!

Come see some of these art objects at the Stouffville Studio Tour.

LIs is a guest with Deb Kirk in Studio #4 on this years tour.

Ray McNeice

"Ah, the glorious colour of Autumn in Canada! Ray McNeice had sketched this
scene in the summer a couple of years ago. He decided, before the leaves had
all fallen, that he would paint a watercolour and turn it into an exercise
in expressing the beauty of the Autumn season."

Make sure to visit Ray at Studio 18.
Bonus to this Studio is 3 other artists, Margaret Grandison, James Wilkes and Marie Messina
